West Londons AJ Tracey is arguably the brightest MC talent to emerge from the UKs buzzing grime underground over the past 12 months. Kaleidoscopic wordplay and crystal-clear vocal delivery subtly reference the heritage of his scene whilst sounding like absolutely nobody else. Where AJ really comes into his own is his versatility – nailing everything from rowdy club bangers and bumping sweetboy jams to the grittiest road anthems with peerless proficiency. 2015 was a breakthrough year for AJ. From summer EP The Front, an early appearance on 1Xtras Next Generation Live, a FACT TV freestyle and regular radio appearances, it quickly became impossible to avoid his name. Excitement grew fast through the autumn: singles Spirit Bomb and Naila clocking over 150k plays on Soundcloud and YouTube, with heavy rotation on Rinse, Beats1 and across the BBC network. AJs year wrapped with the much-anticipated release of Alex Moran EP, picked as NMEs Stream of the Week and featured prominently in end-of-year lists. The first half of 2016 has seen things move up several gears for grimes heir apparent. His first Fire In The Booth, a Tim Westwood Crib Session and headline features for P Money, Last Japan and Coco paved the way for Thiago Silva, a showstopping single with rising London rapper Dave – premiered by Mistajam, playlisted on 1Xtra & Rinse and soon to hit a million views on YouTube. AJ’s live show has already hit Lisbon, Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris and Copenhagen – Summer 2016 sees him take on the festival circuit for the first time, with appearances at Rinse | Born & Bred, Bestival, Appelsap, Outlook, Roskilde, Simple Things and more.
